Bananas: Prevent ulcers and reduce acid indigestion; alleviate both diarrhea and constipation

Beans and lentils plus other legumes (peas, kidneys, and lima): Are rich in fiber and reduce cholesterol. Lower risk of heart disease. Rich in folic acid which strengthens the immune system.

Blueberries: Extraordinary source of antioxidants, fight disease; blue color pigment (also found in cherries, plums, and other blue-red fruits) has been shown to deactivate a number of carcinogens.

Carrots: Contain high levels of beta-carotene and help guard against different forms of cancer, particularly lung cancer.

Chili peppers: Aid digestion; stimulate circulation to prevent formation of blood clots; contain powerful antibiotic chemicals that kill bacteria; clear congestion for colds and coughs; prevent ulcers; relieve pain and are being used to treat arthritis; may prevent cancer by disarming carcinogens.

Cranberries: Help prevent and treat urinary tract infections, particularly in women; can help body's defenses - antiviral and anti-fungal; may aid kidney stone sufferers.

Cruciferous vegetables: Contain antioxidants that fight cancer and help strengthen immune system; lower risk of heart disease; contain phyto-estrogens that relieve PMS and peri-and menopausal symptoms

Flax Seeds: Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which may prevent certain types of cancer especially breast cancer and help to prevent heart disease

Garlic: Fights infection (anti-bacterial); bolsters immune system; reduces cholesterol in blood; lowers high blood pressure: aids circulation; reduces the risk of cancer.

Ginger: Aids digestion; helps prevent nausea; kills bacteria, helps fight colds and coughs; helps to relieve pain from rheumatism and arthritis.

Grapes: The fruit may destroy cancer-causing compounds; wine and fermented grape products are packed with flavenoids and antioxidants that prevent heart disease.

Lettuces and salad greens: Guard against cancer; help prevent and treat anemia; sedative effect (lettuces); bitter greens (radicchio, escarole, endive) stimulate digestive fluids and aid liver function.

Nuts: Nuts such as walnuts, peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pignoli, cashews, and sesame seeds: Nuts are potent sources of antioxidants, and except for walnuts, similar to canola and olive oil, they lower cholesterol and may suppress the growth of cancers.

Oily Fish (such as salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel, bluefish): Lower the risk of heart disease, reduces the risk of stroke; may reduce the risk of cancer.

Oranges and other citrus fruits: Contain vitamin C and other flavenoids to help strengthen the body's immune system and fight diseases; may lower rates of some cancers, especially stomach; combat nitrites in smoked foods; reduce cholesterol; can improve circulation.

Red Bell Peppers: Contain one of the highest concentrations of key antioxidants, which fight all kinds of disease including cancer and heart disease.

Scallions, onions, and shallots: Help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Help reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Soybeans: Reduce heart disease by lowering cholesterol; bolster immune system; contain phyoestrogens that reduce symptoms of PMS and perimenopause; strengthen bones; may impede growth of malignant tumors; steady blood sugar levels.

Spinach:Helps to prevent and relieve anemia and great source of iron.

Strawberries: Improve the appetite and generates body fluids. Good for spring cleansing.

Sweet Potato: Exceptionally high in vitamin E which helps the heart, skin, and male fertility.

Tea (green and black): Contains as many antioxidants as some vegetables; reduces risk of cancer; helps lower risk of heart disease; bolsters immune system; helps to prevent tooth decay.

Tomatoes: Contain lycopene, a component which makes them red and reduces the risk of certain forms of cancer.

Wild mushrooms: Bolster the immune system to fight all types of diseases and viruses; prevent tumors from growing back; and prolong life in cancer patients

Yogurt: Helps avoid gastrointestinal, urinary tract, and yeast infections. Strengthens the immune system.

Cardamom: One of the most important Indian spices, it cleans the mouth and refreshes the mind. It also possesses digestive and anti-spasmodic properties so it helps to stop belching and vomiting.

Cinnamon: Like Chinese cassia, may lower blood pressure and acts as a sedative. Reduces nausea and leaves an appealing flavor in the mouth.

Mace and Nutmeg: Two different spices from the same flower. Imparts strength and enhances sexual prowess. Is used to treat diarrhea and relieve colic.

Turmeric: Is anti-bacterial, antiallergenic, and is used as preservative. Is reputed to purify blood and help control diabetes
